Overview of the Exam Structure

Die telc B2 Prüfung bewertet die Deutschkenntnisse auf einem fortgeschrittenen Niveau. Sie besteht aus einem schriftlichen und einem mündlichen Teil, die verschiedene sprachliche Fähigkeiten überprüfen.

Written Exam

The written exam consists of four parts: Reading, Listening, Language Elements (grammar and vocabulary), and Writing.

Reading

In this section, candidates work on several texts and answer related questions. This part tests reading comprehension.

Language Elements

This part focuses on grammar and vocabulary. Candidates must fill in gaps in texts with the correct language elements. After that, the writing section follows, where a coherent text — for example, a statement of opinion or a formal letter — must be written.

Listening

In the listening comprehension section, candidates listen to various audio recordings such as conversations or interviews and then answer comprehension questions.

Oral Exam

The oral exam consists of three tasks:

  • Self-introduction – Candidates briefly introduce themselves.
  • Language use in a situation – They respond appropriately to a given everyday situation.
  • Joint discussion – Together with a partner, they discuss a given topic.

Particular emphasis is placed on communication skills, expression, and interactive speaking ability.

Special Features of the Exam

The telc B2 exam is offered in a paper-based format and can also be taken as a partial exam (written only or oral only). Those who pass receive the telc Deutsch B2 certificate, which confirms the ability to communicate independently in a wide range of demanding everyday situations. There are no breaks between the individual sections of the written exam.
