Overview of the Exam Structure
The telc C2 German exam is a demanding test that assesses all language skills—reading, listening, writing, and speaking—at the highest level.
It is divided into a written and an oral exam. The written exam consists of three parts: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and writing. The oral exam consists of a presentation followed by a discussion.
Written Exam
Reading (80 minutes)
The reading section consists of three tasks that test your ability to understand and analyze complex and abstract texts.
You must not only grasp the content but also recognize the structure of the text and the relationships between sections.
Listening and Writing (60 minutes)
In this part, you listen to a longer text (e.g. a lecture, interview, or panel discussion) and take notes while listening.
Afterwards, you write a summary of what you have heard, presenting the key points and information in your own words.
Writing (90 minutes)
You are required to write a complex text, such as an essay, report, or analysis. The focus is on structure, coherence, and appropriate language use. You must express your ideas clearly and develop logical arguments.
Oral Exam (approx. 20 minutes)
In the oral exam, you present a topic and take part in a discussion.
You must express your opinions clearly and fluently, respond to your partner’s arguments, and defend your position.
This section evaluates your communication skills, your ability to speak spontaneously and precisely, and your argumentative strength.
Special Features of the Exam
The exam is offered in paper-based format and can also be taken as a partial exam. Successful candidates receive the telc German C2 certificate, confirming their ability to communicate independently at a near-native level.
